December ’11 Newsletter – Creative Thought Matters

Message from the Alchemist

Whew! We’re back from our whirlwind tour of the country, and boy are we excited about the people and places we saw. So many, in fact, that Matthew, our Mission Controller, gave out all his business cards before his last meeting in Salt Lake City!

And despite the requisite airport and weather delays, expanding our brand and reach was the goal of the travel (Matthew to Minneapolis, Denver, Phoenix and Utah) and Linda to California. We met with an 11-year-old company that really needed our help a year ago with marketing. But they came to us too late. A larger company with the resources to expand their own outreach is acquiring them. Despite promises, there is no guarantee that the new owners will keep the previous folks around or keep the company going in the direction of the previous management.

The lesson? Marketing isn’t only about growing your business, but about keeping your business viable in the face of competition. Does your business have the ability, strategies and channels to withstand a possible buy out by a larger company who sees your potential? How would you brand yourself after a takeover? Is your (or your employees’) identity tied into a business that no longer exists? What have you done to separate yourself and your brand from the crowd?

Hamptons Creative Group has been working with a design group in town to advertise Southampton’s Open all Season initiative.

It’s been wonderful working with our local, small business neighbors to remind everyone that our Long Island villages and towns are open year round for shopping, dining, museums, and music.
This is the type of project that local companies around the country (and planet-wide) can do, too! Ask us how.

Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group

Reassess your professional and personal brands regularly. Your experience, ideas and ambitions are going to evolve as your career develops, so make sure your personal brand is keeping up. Just as you should regularly update your company’s brand identity, remember to revisit yourself regularly: wardrobe, resume, online profiles and other elements of your personal brand every few months. Be flexible. “Brand You” is always a dynamic work in progress, just like your business brand.

Let Hamptons Creative Group help you keep both your brands in line with your professional and personal goals.

November ’11 Newsletter Creative Thought Matters

Message from the Alchemist

Special thanks to Marie Guthrie of the Legacy Track for inviting Linda to the seminar put on by Suzanne Falter-Barns and Jeffrey Van Dyk in San Francisco last month. Marie recognized that Linda was a good fit for the program that teaches entrepreneurs how to connect their hearts to their business messages and goals.

As Marie says, “Linda has such a sensitivity to what people want and need. You can see these inner cravings and emotional connections in her work. She brings to life this spiritual connection in her business and with her clients. I invited her because I felt like she already instinctively knows how to do this, and that the experience would give her tools beyond all she’s dreamed of. This powerful process will attract like-minded businesses so her business will grow, too.”

This spiritual/soul based approach resonated with Linda immediately. As a result, she’s back with amazing new directions and transformations for Hamptons Creative Group, a result of the pages upon pages of notes and ideas she took there. Many of them are percolating in her Alchemist’s cauldron right now! So stay tuned for even more and better ways for Hamptons Creative Group to connect the heart and soul of its customers with their own businesses.

OTHER NEWS

The final weekend in October is supposed to be a culmination of the fall – crisp air, freshly harvested apples and pumpkins, and maybe just a sweater. Not this year!

We were either tricked or treated into a nor’easter that brought snow, howling winds, and dangerous conditions. Many people were without power and had to go on a scramble for gloves, coats, and hats.

These surprises happen in business, too. A marketing partnership can help you weather any storm.

Success Stories

Our success story this month is everyone who didn’t wait! Last month’s announcement about bundled service packages drew interest from near and far – and those that jumped in early got advance access! (Hey, all you had to do was ask!)

The most popular bundle we’ve provided “under the radar” so far is our comprehensive “Social Presence” bundle. This opportunity for businesses to get noticed across the entire spectrum of social media platforms is the best option for business ready to embrace the full megillah of social media. Our “Start-Up” bundle for new businesses pair essential social media tools with traditional marketing elements to get in front of those important first customers. And our “Strategy Bundle” is for those who want a sounding board for their ideas, concepts, inklings, or conundrums, perfect for the business that wants fresh eyes and ears on their brand and marketing efforts.

Hamptons Creative Group offers the Strategy Bundle as a flexible alternative to the more comprehensive, long-term Marketing Partnership. We’re not going to name any names of the early recipient of our bundle benefits, but maybe your name will be right here soon!

October ’11 Newsletter – Creative Thought Matters

Message from the Alchemist

If you needed any more proof that social media is here to stay, here it is. A few weeks ago, Linda and 111 of her closest friends from 45 years ago gathered at a house in Southampton for a reunion.

So what, you say? The reunion was coordinated over Facebook! The group also discovered through social media that, unbeknownst to them, two of them had been living just 5 doors apart – for 24 years!

Linda loves to say that there are only 4 people in the world, and they all know each other. That’s definitely something this reunion brought home, courtesy of Facebook. Almost everyone at the gathering brought their smart phones, iPads or other devices, and started connecting even more with each other.

Not only was it amazing to see people from way back when, but it also raised everyone’s awareness of their surroundings.

The moral of the story? It’s not too complicated to find anyone these days, including Hamptons Creative Group. In fact, we love making it easy to get to us, and get to know us. Just follow the links…

Celebrity sightings in the Hamptons this summer have come fast and furious, almost like the hurricane we’re all cleaning up after!

At the annual Authors Night to benefit the venerable East Hampton Library, some 160 writers crowded in with avid readers, including Hamptons Creative Group’s success story Ren Dodson and Hampton Dog creator Lisa Hartman.

We saw Robert Kline, Nelson DeMille, Martin Amis and benefit chair Alec Baldwin. We talked to two hot prospects, too, each hard-working authors with new books on the market.

Christie BrinkleyThen we got our workout in with Christie Brinkley at the Wellness Center at Southampton Hospital. This event, hosted by Danskin, raised money for Ellen’s Run. Ellen’s Run supports women and families who suffer from breast cancer.

Christie looked great in her Danskin wear and we got quite a workout!

Follow up fast. The best time to follow up with someone you meet at a networking function, charity event or even standing in line for a latte, is directly after meeting them, while you’re still fresh in his or her mind. Never forget that networking is about building and maintaining relationships. You can go out and meet dozens of people, but what’s the point if you never keep in touch with them? Take the initiative and make the first move.

Struggling with using social media like LinkedIn to follow up? Let Hamptons Creative Group help you figure out how to use online networking tools to expand your brand influence.

Success Stories

This month’s success story is small business. Getting through both an earthquake and a hurricane recently, it’s a testament to those who plan ahead for the expected and unexpected. While no one foresaw the earthquake (though we all felt it) everyone seemed to have a plan for the hurricane. And while the effects were far reaching and quite serious in many cases, there’s no doubt that because of such extensive planning the worst was avoided.

As we spoke with our clients following the storm, it was clear that there were a many great things still on their minds. After some careful questions and some encouragement, we were able to help them regain focus and start planning once again. Marketing is a continuous process, so it’s ok to look for help from an outside group. You never know what great things you’ll uncover about yourself, your goals, and your success.

Message from the Alchemist

This month, I get to talk about two favorite things: Facebook and dogs. The two seemingly unrelated things have made a fabulous connection! Through Facebook I met Lisa Hartman. With her partner Carol Saxe, Lisa’s creating a coffee table book, Hampton Dogs, about, you guessed it, the canines of the Hamptons. Featuring (mostly) photos of dogs adopted from local shelters. A portion of the proceeds from the project supports those same local animal shelters. The shelter population swells at the end of the summer season here, as it does in many resort areas, when owners leave their pets of convenience behind.

After seeing Facebook posts and photos of my dogs Lulu and Scout (both rescues), Lisa sent me – well, Lulu and Scout really – an invitation! The pups performed like super models! Many of you know that Fred and Ginger, my brother Jim’s dogs are also rescue dogs that I found running wild along a local road. So we’re even more excited about Hampton Dogs, and look forward to its publication in December. Please support the project by contacting Lisa at 786-942-7387, or Lisa@LisaTheDogTrainer.com!

Were you at the marvelous Evening at Bedell Cellars last month? We saw lots of our new North Fork friends – we’re new members of the North Fork Chamber and met them in June at our Making Social Media Digestible presentation. Linda was one of the co-chairs of the Bedell event, which had a 35% increase in attendance, and benefited the Parrish Art Museum. The silent auction raised lots of money for the museum, and Hamptons Creative Group donated a social media package. We can’t wait to start work with the lucky bidder.

We took the opportunity among friends old and new to record a video invitation for our Conversations with the Experts webinar series staring July 14 (see below). The rain restrained itself to a gentle mist that made for a beautiful vineyard experience and background for the video – the 11th straight year of consistently decent weather for this outdoor event.

Plan for the unexpected. July has 5 Fridays and Saturdays this year! Are you ready for the unexpected “extra” days to talk with your customers, or offer something new and special? Or maybe you want a summer full of the same old, same old. Why not use these unexpected extra days to celebrate your business in small ways. Send a note to a client you haven’t heard from in a while. Thank your regular customers via email, just for being loyal. These small, unexpected touches will keep your brand top of mind and continue the conversation long after July’s memory fades.

Continuing the conversations theme, our success story this month came to us after our conversation with the North Fork Chamber of Commerce in June. Everyone on the North Fork knows the Sound View Inn – it’s a charming, local hotel in Greenport with more than a half-century of loyal following.

To keep the conversation flowing between the Inn and its guests, and open conversations with new guests and referrals, Hamptons Creative Group is creating their Facebook page and other social media opportunities for online conversation. The Inn will definitely highlight their new multi-sportsplex for tennis and basketball that’s unique for the area.

June 2011 Newsletter – Creative Thought Matters

Message from the Alchemist

What if we could make one section of your marketing effort – social media – digestible? We asked that question at a recent presentation. We broke the social media menu into reasonable portions, and reminded our audience that not everything the menu lists is going to agree with them.

Last month, we heard a similar message from those who completed our Goal Focus Sheet. There are so many choices on the marketing menu that it’s overwhelming to know where to begin, or which ones pair well with others. We reminded them that all tools don’t work for all businesses. They began to understand that you don’t have to do it all. The connection happened when we made the pieces digestible.

Get your Potion for Success starting with our Goal Focus SheetBoth groups discovered that digesting social media is easier than they thought, especially when they see how carefully Hamptons Creative Group plans the menu that’s right for them. Instead of an infinite array of choices, we present them with a menu designed for maximum social media nutrition.

With Hamptons Creative Group, clients don’t have to go to different parts of the menu to build a social media marketing meal. We blend it all together as a whole.

May 2011 Newsletter – Creative Thought Matters

Message from the Alchemist

Some days we just wonder, how does it all work? We know it does – we see the results! By integrating each marketing element into a complex formula for success, the result goes far beyond what each element individually could accomplish.

Still, with all the balls we’re juggling for ourselves and our clients, it’s important to keep the big goals in mind. That’s when we reassure ourselves that every cog in our branding and marketing machine works smoothly. But in stepping back, we also see what’s squeaking.

What we offer our clients is the foundation of how it works for Hamptons Creative Group. Last month, many companies looked to us for help focusing their own marketing efforts. We put them back on the road to success. It’s not too late for you, either.

Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group

Building a successful marketing and branding effort is a marathon, not a sprint.

Reach the finish line by developing great habits for success.

So how do you stay on track? Develop ongoing habits that will keep you moving forward one day at a time, while always keeping an eye on the big picture. Habits like providing an excellent service or product everyday get you noticed. Then your customers will trust you with more business.Need help figuring out how it all works together for your business? Let Hamptons Creative Group help you put together the pieces of your marketing machine and launch your brand success.

Success Stories

What do you do if you’re an author with a new book to promote? You turn to Hamptons Creative Group to create your success story. Author Robert Lovett came to us with his unpublished novel, Fallen Flower Child: A 60’s Mystery of Passion & MurderHe had no avenue for the book to be reviewed or sent out into the world in this day of Facebook and Twitter.

Kindle and other e-readers are important for authors to consider.

Drawing on our previous publishing experience, we handled everything from editing to cover design to getting reader feedback and reviews. Now we’re spreading the word via traditional media and social media. Lovett’s electronic-only book will be available for Kindle and other e-readers soon. Even better? All our steps from A to Z are eco-friendly, and not one tree was sacrificed to bring this effort to fruition – an example of how it all works for the author, the reader and the environment.

Creative Thought Matters - The Monthly Newsletter from Hamptons Creative Group

April 2011 – Creative Thought Matters

~Message from the Alchemist~

Over a recent three days, Hamptons Creative Group dived deep into the topics of communication, marketing messages and vocabulary, and branding. We brought in outside inspiration – people, speakers and thinkers – to help us rev up our creative energy. One tidbit we gleaned was that a recent study says Internet advertising has now exceeded print adverts. This confirmed that social media really is a useful tool in any business’ marketing mix.

Our clients (and you) know we’re all about collaboration and creativity. We find ideas in many places, including talking with people in person, via email and online in places like the Hamptons Water Cooler. Our collaborative community is full of creative individuals – guest bloggers, ad hoc designers, editors and subject experts – who spark our inspiration and refresh our thinking.

The real lesson from our three days of creativity immersion? We don’t always have to do everything by ourselves or rely only on the talent we have in house. It’s okay to reach beyond our boundaries for resources, ideas and help. We find that our own creativity gets a boost by collaborating with others. Yours will, too.

~Heard Around The Cooler~

Looking for an example of how businesses collaborate? Look no further than the Hamptons Water Cooler. This past weekend, Fast-teks of Long Island’s East End teamed up with Watermill Cupcake Company to offer “Tech and a Cupcake Day.” In addition to the delicious cupcakes, specialty baked goods, and gourmet coffees, Fast-teks certified computer technicians were on-hand providing a free diagnostic evaluation for customers’ PCs.

While we may not think of sweet treats and technology going together, this event is a great example of how creative collaboration can work to serve the interests of customers. How do you team up in the Hamptons? Visiting the Hamptons Water Cooler is one way to start.

~Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group~

Magazines, websites and newspapers overflow with stories and images of people, items, places

and experiences that might spark your creativity or lead to a promising collaboration. Over the next few weeks, clip stories that motivate you and save them in a creativity folder to browse for inspiration. If you’re a visual person, group favorite images together on a vision board – a collage of inspiring images. When you surround yourself with images of what you want, you will be more likely to find those people, places, experiences and things in real life.

Need help sparking your creativity? Let Hamptons Creative Group help you spark your marketing idea machine and jump start your brand inspiration.

~Success Stories~

Hamptons Creative Group can’t stop talking about Joshua’s Place, a beautiful, non-profit wellness retreat center eager to spread the word about their services and location. But they had no social media presence and no way to reach their potential customers beyond an obsolete mailing list. They turned to us to appeal to a new audience who couldn’t see their physical location (prominent signage is prohibited there).

We’re putting them on the right path to savvy social media marketing by creating and maintaining their presence, exploding awareness about them, and beefing membership ranks exponentially and quickly with our expertise in marketing and branding.

~On the Horizon~

How was the 1st quarter of business? Is your branding aligned? Are you reaching your target market? Have you already abandoned your plan? Ready for Your Success Story?

Make now the time you reach your goals! Starting with the exclusive Goal Focus Sheet. With this powerful tool, you can finally turn your marketing efforts into a success story.

There’s time remaining to make 2011 a banner year. Businesses and Solo-preneurs can get sidetracked, missing out on the important opportunities and trends that enable some to stand apart from the competition.

Hamptons Creative Group cares about helping others create success stories. If your success story is still waiting to be written, don’t let any more time go by. The Goal Focus Sheet is the first step you can take today to reach your goals.

So, what’s on the horizon? Let us know your challenges and we’ll help you make the changes toward your own success story.

~Heard Around The Cooler~

Are you a member of Hamptons Water Cooler? We’ve updated the first Hamptons-only online social network where businesses connect and conversation flows. Now the Cooler is an even BETTER place to share your stories, promote events, post video and photos, chat, contribute tips, and build relationships. What have you heard about the new, improved “Heard Around The Cooler?”

Stop by and give it a try!

With Goldman Sachs investing $1 billion in Facebook and JP Morgan Chase in talks to buy a stake in Twitter, there’s no question that online social networking is something your business or organization must participate in. Hamptons Creative Group helps groups take the social media plunge and dive deeper toward success.

~Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group~

When building your network of connections, don’t overlook the obvious. Too many people think that they have no network because they fail to “count” the people all around them. Family, neighbors, classmates, service providers and vendors, and EVERYONE ELSE you know are all members of your network. In fact, one of the best ways to grow your network is through personal referrals from your friends and family.

Need help building your network? Let Hamptons Creative Group suggest ways for you to connect – in person or online – to build your network.

~Success Stories~

Anti-Aging & Family Wellness Group is our Success Story this month. Under the direction of Caroline Fierro, M.D., this practice is taking steps toward becoming a nationally recognized brand. With a new email marketing program managed by Hamptons Creative Group set to deploy this month, Dr. Fierro and her group are primed to see great results.

Looking for great results in your own email marketing? Hamptons Creative Group has prepared a new eguide called, “The 10 Perennial Principles in Email Marketing.”

Visit our website to receive your complimentary copy.

~On the Horizon~

We’re always looking for new ways to provide marketing, design, and promotion for clients. This has lead us to construct additional production opportunities that reflect the diverse needs of a plant-wide market.

How do we determine which direction to take and how are these connections made? One way is through face-to-face interactions. At a recent event promoted by Hamptons Creative Group, we were introduced to several individuals each looking for help telling their unique success story.

Another way is through broadcasting. CEO Linda A.B. Miller again had the pleasure of being on the airwaves of WPPB 88.3-FM last month. Business owners and organizations who were tuned in look to Hamptons Creative Group to provide connections with their ideal audience — and we find the best way to do it.

So, what’s on the horizon? Let us know your challenges and we’ll help you make the changes toward your own success story.
