Celebrity sightings in the Hamptons this summer have come fast and furious, almost like the hurricane we’re all cleaning up after!

At the annual Authors Night to benefit the venerable East Hampton Library, some 160 writers crowded in with avid readers, including Hamptons Creative Group’s success story Ren Dodson and Hampton Dog creator Lisa Hartman.

We saw Robert Kline, Nelson DeMille, Martin Amis and benefit chair Alec Baldwin. We talked to two hot prospects, too, each hard-working authors with new books on the market.

Christie BrinkleyThen we got our workout in with Christie Brinkley at the Wellness Center at Southampton Hospital. This event, hosted by Danskin, raised money for Ellen’s Run. Ellen’s Run supports women and families who suffer from breast cancer.

Christie looked great in her Danskin wear and we got quite a workout!

Success Stories

This month’s success story is small business. Getting through both an earthquake and a hurricane recently, it’s a testament to those who plan ahead for the expected and unexpected. While no one foresaw the earthquake (though we all felt it) everyone seemed to have a plan for the hurricane. And while the effects were far reaching and quite serious in many cases, there’s no doubt that because of such extensive planning the worst was avoided.

As we spoke with our clients following the storm, it was clear that there were a many great things still on their minds. After some careful questions and some encouragement, we were able to help them regain focus and start planning once again. We asked David White of Weboptimiser to be our inaugural guest blogger this week. A brilliant, and no kidding, former rocket scientist, David’s turned his amazing brain to the world of search engine optimization and helping others ensure that their online marketing gets found.

Here’s David’s take on making connections in our increasingly related planet.


Well, conversations to me most often describe experiences and there is nothing better than real life experiences to draw upon for conversation. So I have a couple of recent experiences that occurred (and are re-occurring) from just the last few weeks.

It really is all about the experiences that you have in life that make the difference. I found myself in Orlando and I happened to have the experience of being in the audience of the Brian Tracy show, someone that I had long admired since I started my career in sales. He taught me, amongst other things, the principle of rapport.

Brian’s keynote presentation, his content, and message were as poignant as ever, and honed to the bone, perfect. I even managed to record snippets on my mobile phone. From that experience I created a very short video.


Well, would you know! I was invited from the audience to be interviewed by Brian. That interview is scheduled to be shown on broadcast television in the next few weeks. You fortunate readers get a sneak peek, below, of what I do and how I do it. But really, the attraction is Brian.

On getting home to the UK, I discovered I had been awarded a Golden Quill Award, to be given to me at the Best-Seller’s Summit and Awards Ceremony in New York City. That’s where I met Linda Miller-Zellner, a fellow award winner, great conversationalist and fellow Brian Tracy fan. And that’s how Linda and I connected. If I hadn’t connected with Brian Tracy, I would never have been asked to be a guest blogger for Hamptons Creative Group.

This month, we celebrate Linda’s success in connecting Hampton Creative Group’s clients to their audiences! As part of this success, we’re proud to be creating the Facebook fan page for Peconic Public Broadcasting. This local NPR station needed help venturing online to connect with their community of listeners and followers. Linda has known Eclectic Café radio host Bonnie Grice and station manager Wally Smith for years. This community minded group does so much for the area, and Linda has supported the station for years. She even answered phones during last summer’s pledge drive.

So when Bonnie invited Linda to talk about her new book on the show last week, Linda was delighted to invite another local author, Ren Dodson, to join her. Bonnie highlighted Linda’s book and Hamptons Creative Group’s work to spread the word about Rens’ writing, too. Making connections between our vast network of collaborative friends and community – it’s what Hamptons Creative Group is all about.

You’ll recall from our last newsletter that Hamptons Creative Group was offering Marketing Makeovers to help businesses make a splash in 2011. We started delivering those Marketing Makeovers in January to eager and excited clients looking to benefit from a customized blueprint or success.

You know we’re all about making a splash at Hamptons
Creative Group, right? Right! We love trying new and creative ideas, and just
did – a never-before tried creative marketing strategy for selling a house in a down market.

We invited 12 local real estate agents and brokers to an intimate fireside chat with Mark Matthews, the architect of Linda’s house. The home has fondly taken on the name Pied-a-Mer, French for Place by the Sea. The fire was roaring and the well-known
designer of the unique abode discussed its forward thinking features, why the house is special and why real estate professionals (the ones who bring potential buyers to look at it) should play up those distinctions. This special home features a septic system that could sustain a small country and hurricane watch windows. You could
throw a 2 x 4 at 150 miles per hour at the windows and they’d hold!

Pied-a-Mer is a small home with a big feel and a big heart.
It was Linda’s dream project at the time, which incorporated a plan to sell eventually. The response was amazing, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a quick sale!

December 4 was our Windows Over Main Street holiday open house! Friends old and new followed the aromas of hot chocolate,

Many of you know that I was involved with publishing for many years – my brother Jim and I owned Miller Publishing. Well over the last 6 months, I have been working on a book with some of the top conscious entrepreneurs from across the globe.
