Word of Mouth – May 19, 2011

The Summer Season

How does it work for the Hamptons? This coming weekend is huge for the folks who live and work in the Hamptons because it marks the beginning of the summer season. Our sedate villages will morph overnight into bustling, lively hubs of activity.

Every shopkeeper, restaurateur and delivery driver will be hair-on-fire busy. Because the weekend BEFORE Memorial Day Weekend is when Realtors, rental agents and landlords in the area run around opening houses, cottages, bungalows and barely habitable huts for the influx of summer residents, weekenders and tourists.

And we love it!

During the busy season here, Hamptons’ business owners gear up and staff up – making hay while the sun shines and the beaches beckon.

Do you know when your ideal time or season is for those looking for your products or services? Do you notice a spike or dip on certain days or during particular months?

Being ever aware of when things move around you can help you plan special offers, trigger price increases and bring in additional help.

Creative Thought Matters - The Monthly Newsletter from Hamptons Creative Group

April 2011 – Creative Thought Matters

~Message from the Alchemist~

Over a recent three days, Hamptons Creative Group dived deep into the topics of communication, marketing messages and vocabulary, and branding. We brought in outside inspiration – people, speakers and thinkers – to help us rev up our creative energy. One tidbit we gleaned was that a recent study says Internet advertising has now exceeded print adverts. This confirmed that social media really is a useful tool in any business’ marketing mix.

Our clients (and you) know we’re all about collaboration and creativity. We find ideas in many places, including talking with people in person, via email and online in places like the Hamptons Water Cooler. Our collaborative community is full of creative individuals – guest bloggers, ad hoc designers, editors and subject experts – who spark our inspiration and refresh our thinking.

The real lesson from our three days of creativity immersion? We don’t always have to do everything by ourselves or rely only on the talent we have in house. It’s okay to reach beyond our boundaries for resources, ideas and help. We find that our own creativity gets a boost by collaborating with others. Yours will, too.

~Heard Around The Cooler~

Looking for an example of how businesses collaborate? Look no further than the Hamptons Water Cooler. This past weekend, Fast-teks of Long Island’s East End teamed up with Watermill Cupcake Company to offer “Tech and a Cupcake Day.” In addition to the delicious cupcakes, specialty baked goods, and gourmet coffees, Fast-teks certified computer technicians were on-hand providing a free diagnostic evaluation for customers’ PCs.

While we may not think of sweet treats and technology going together, this event is a great example of how creative collaboration can work to serve the interests of customers. How do you team up in the Hamptons? Visiting the Hamptons Water Cooler is one way to start.

~Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group~

Magazines, websites and newspapers overflow with stories and images of people, items, places

and experiences that might spark your creativity or lead to a promising collaboration. Over the next few weeks, clip stories that motivate you and save them in a creativity folder to browse for inspiration. If you’re a visual person, group favorite images together on a vision board – a collage of inspiring images. When you surround yourself with images of what you want, you will be more likely to find those people, places, experiences and things in real life.

Need help sparking your creativity? Let Hamptons Creative Group help you spark your marketing idea machine and jump start your brand inspiration.

~Success Stories~

Hamptons Creative Group can’t stop talking about Joshua’s Place, a beautiful, non-profit wellness retreat center eager to spread the word about their services and location. But they had no social media presence and no way to reach their potential customers beyond an obsolete mailing list. They turned to us to appeal to a new audience who couldn’t see their physical location (prominent signage is prohibited there).

We’re putting them on the right path to savvy social media marketing by creating and maintaining their presence, exploding awareness about them, and beefing membership ranks exponentially and quickly with our expertise in marketing and branding.

~On the Horizon~

How was the 1st quarter of business? Is your branding aligned? Are you reaching your target market? Have you already abandoned your plan? Ready for Your Success Story?

Make now the time you reach your goals! Starting with the exclusive Goal Focus Sheet. With this powerful tool, you can finally turn your marketing efforts into a success story.

There’s time remaining to make 2011 a banner year. Businesses and Solo-preneurs can get sidetracked, missing out on the important opportunities and trends that enable some to stand apart from the competition.

Hamptons Creative Group cares about helping others create success stories. If your success story is still waiting to be written, don’t let any more time go by. The Goal Focus Sheet is the first step you can take today to reach your goals.

So, what’s on the horizon? Let us know your challenges and we’ll help you make the changes toward your own success story.

Word of Mouth Jan 6, 2011 – Digital Trends for 2011

Digital Marketing Trends & Predictions for 2011
We at Hamptons Creative Group don’t claim to be the complete experts on electronic marketing, but we do know quite a lot, including some important things that will happen in the digital landscape in 2011. And we know that these trends will have a big impact on our business and yours in the coming year. Here’s a recap of a great article we found examining these trends, and some ideas to capitalize on them.

1- Costs-Per-Click Rising

As dollars continue to flood into online marketing, cost per click is becoming more expensive. The way to lower costs? Testing and optimizing both by marketers and keyword software. Conversion from click to purchase is the goal.

2- Mobile & Social Platforms Dominate

Ever-increasing mobile and social platform users (that’s you, Mr. Smartphone and you Miss Facebook), translates to marketing on many more sites, in more formats and more contexts. As this shift occurs, marketers need to build a diverse customer base NOW. Look past your own website toward investments in Facebook pages, Twitter feeds and even sites like Groupon or Google Places.

3. Google Gets Social, Facebook Gets Serious

Google’s search rankings will begin to respond to feedback, not just hits, allowing users to rate search results or even websites, and have user “likes” factored into ranking algorithms. And at the same time, Facebook wiGoogle Analyticsll get more serious by extend its ads beyond Facebook to participating non-Facebook sites. What does this mean? A di rect targeting of messages based on demographic and placement characteristics, offering the first true challenge to Google.

4. Come Back, Little Sheba

What is the value of getting back someone you already acquired? In 2011, look for this question to be answered. “Remarketing” tools will become better at telling marketers the true cost-of-acquisition. Watch for better Google Analytics metrics and for other remarketing vendors to get into the act.

So How Do You Leverage These Trends? 1.Plan for an increasingly competitive marketplace. Consumers are always looking for a better deal, so focus on the basics: message testing, landing page optimization and high rankings in search engines.

2.Use Bing, too. Bing’s an up and comer. Use it like you would Google.

3. Go mobile. Start testing mobile as a way to reach people. Scan Me with Your Smart Phone -QR 2D Code

4.Put your eggs in many baskets. Using Facebook ads? Try other social networking sites like Groupon,Foursquare and Google Places, too.

Don’t know where to start in marketing your message or how to take advantage of 2011’s trends? Our Marketing Makeover provides you with a customized blueprint to stay on top of it all. Already have a plan, but want help from the pros to execute it? Hamptons Creative Group gets your message to the places and people you want it to – your ideal customers, wherever they are, planetwide.

Newsletter- January 2011

~ Heard Around The Cooler ~

Hamptons Creative is Planetwide!Welcome to the New Year! Linda’s goals for the New Year include meeting new people and making new connections, plus committing to being active in realizing the goals of Hamptons Creative Group’s customers – wherever they reside, planetwide!

Speaking of planetwide, Linda’s just returned from a road trip to Florida with good friend Roberta – delayed a few days for the snownami that hit the East Coast after Christmas. They stopped along the way to make some new connections with potential business affiliates. Because of the 2 day delay (darn snownami!) they didn’t get a chance to visit Advantage Media or see Nick and JD of Celebrity Branding along the way. That’s the company that published Linda’s best-selling book “Ignite Your Business. Transform Your World.”

The ladies drove Roberta’s car down so Roberta could spend the winter making accessories for the shoe line designed by Roberta’s friend and manufactured in Italy – Juno Shoe Girl.

Hamptons Creative connects with Juno Shoe Girl

This adorable collection of handmade fun and elegant sandals, with a resort emphasis, is handcrafted with high quality imported leathers and jewelry ornaments. Propelled by jet fuel laughter, they arrived in Jupiter at 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve, then blasted out the door minutes later dressed to celebrate with Juno Shoe Girl and friends. It just shows what a small planet this is – with success stories happening everywhere!

Planetwide Coziness
So what does being a planetwide creative group mean? We  have our computers, desks and a comfy couch in the office at 11 Main Street, Southampton, but operate virtually from various satellite locations. We source trends and concepts and talent from wherever they originate. We deliver solutions that are effective planetwide, and serve clients in far-flung destinations – Long Island, other states, other countries!

So here’s to 2011! What are your goals for the year?

~ Hamptons Water Cooler ~

Hamptons Water Cooler,
the first Hamptons-only online social network, is where businesses connect and conversation flows! Join us there as we gather ’round the cooler to share stories, promote events, post video and photos, chat, contribute tips, and build relationships. We’ll see you there!
Now you can share your Flicker Photos on Twitter and Facebook, right from your page in Hamptons Water Cooler...Stop by and give it a try!

~Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group~

Be curious. Read a magazine on a topic you know nothing about. Go to StumbleUpon.com and wander aimlessly through websites you might never otherwise find. Take a different route home from work. Talk to the one person who seems the most different from you. New passions can arise in surprising places.

Need help showing up in places curious people go? Let Hamptons Creative Group develop messages and outlets that get you found by your ideal customers.

~Success Stories~

Linda herself is our success story this month! Her business and marketing book, “Ignite Your Business. Transform Your World” has already reached #1 in Amazon’s Direct Marketing category and best-seller status in the Entrepreneurship category. The book features top advice from entrepreneurs around the country on how to transform your world and your business by building a mission-driven sustainable business. Linda’s chapter is “Allow Wisdom And Intuition To Amplify Your Power.”

As a result of this successful release, Linda will also soon be inducted into The National Academy of Best-Selling Authors™, an organization that honors authors from many of the leading independent best-seller lists. “Ignite Your Business. Transform Your World” is available here.

Word of Mouth Dec 16, 2010 – Polar Plunge!

Word of Mouth Dec 16, 2010 – Polar Plunge!

Hamptons Creative Group Logo

WORD OF MOUTH FROM HAMPTONS CREATIVE

Polar Plunge!

We walk our talk at Hamptons Creative Group about giving back to the community, especially during the chill of winter. We took the Seventh Annual Polar Bear Plunge at Coopers Beach (named the best beach in America this year) on Saturday. It’s a benefit for Human Resources of the Hamptons, a Southampton charity that provides food, clothing and holiday presents to the less fortunate.Linda Miller before the Polar Plunge at Coopers Beach

Polar Bear Plunge, you say?
For my land locked, water deprived friends, a polar bear plunge is when crazy people jump into the ocean in winter time. Many do it on New Year’s Day as a way to kick start the new year. Others, like me, do it to show our support for local non-profit groups who support our communities. And like the old Russian proverb says,

“He who helps a friend in woe is like a fur coat in the snow.”

Or an umbrella in the rain. Or a wet suit in December. What better way to help those in need than throwing myself in the freezing water! What? Ice on the Peconic Bay and I’m jumping in the ocean?! Oh yeah, that’s where the wet suit came in. Unlike many of the braver plungers who went in attired only in bathing suits. In typical Linda fashionista mode, I went for the “layered” rubber look. My hula skirt will never be the same, but the pearls held up, even through the waves!

The event was great fun for a great cause, and I’m already thinking about next year’s themed costume. Maybe an actual polar bear? I’m also thinking about the plunge as something that boosted my energy to push forward into the New Year – a lovely release that shifts focus for Hamptons Creative Group’s new direction. The imagery is a dog shaking off the water, with glee, after emerging from the ocean – a shaking and shimmering bundle of energy. And if your brand has gone to the dogs, let us sniff out your success story and groom that puppy into show dog quality!

Word of Mouth Nov 18, 2010 – Social CRM

Social CRM

Um, yeah. Social CRM. That’s what we thought when we saw those words. They mean social AddressTwo - The Simple CRM for Small BusinessCustomer Relationship Management (CRM). There are lots of tools out there for managing our relationships with customers – in fact, there’s probably an application designed specially for every field there is. We’re looking into one called Address Two. It organize contacts, manages leads, follow-up, tasks and activities. Basically it keeps us on track with our customers.

So why add social to that CRM mix? We loved the explanation and illustrations from this post because it really demystified the whole social media process. Especially because 60% of Americans regularly interact with companies on a social media site. That’s huge! Even huger? 93% of Americans want brands to have a strong presence across these social media sites.

Here are the highlights of the post:https://i0.wp.com/www.socialmediaexaminer.com/images/1110jm-chart-social-crm.png

  • Social CRM is first a strategy, based around customer engagement and interactions. “Social CRM is about moving from fans and followers to customers and advocates.”
  • Social CRM is still about CRM, meaning a back-end process and system for managing customer relationships and data in an efficient and process-centric way.
  • Social CRM will mean different things to different businesses. The key is being able to understand the business challenge you’re looking to solve, and then solving it.
  • Social CRM is one component of developing a social or collaborative business, both internally and externally.

We know that our database of contacts is one the most valuable assets we have. Are you following up with your database like you should? Are you staying in touch with email, postcards, letters, and mobile messaging? We’re hoping that with AddressTwo, we’ll be able to do an even better job of it, especially as we dive into this exciting mobile messaging movement.

Are you using a tool like Address Two to keep in touch with your clients and customers? Tell us! We want to know what you’re using, if anything, because we want as many tools in our toolbox as we can get. That’s how we keep ourselves at Hamptons Creative Group ahead of the pack in our work as your marketing concierge, turning blah, boring messages into brilliant brands.

Word of Mouth Nov 11, 2010 – Time Change

WORD OF MOUTH FROM HAMPTONS CREATIVE

Time Change

The New York City Marathon happened over the weekend, marking the height of the autumn season for us. Coincidentally, that day was also the day we “fell back” into standard time, gaining back the hour we lost in the spring.

Al Roker of the Today Show ran the marathon, and commented on television that he was so stressed about the time changing on the day of the race that he pushed his clocks ahead, not back. While I was at the gym that morning, my trainer was confused about whether she should “believe” her smart phone or the digital clock in the kitchen or the cable box. Apparently, some smart phones weren’t programmed to take the time change into account. Technology fail!

Which had us thinking about time. Sunday was a day of time grace, where if we’re a little late for something, or even a lot late, we can blame it on the time change rather than our time management skills. In fact, I bet a bunch of people were early for work on Monday because their dogs don’t carry timepieces, either. They are simply up at the same time as usual, expecting our attention. Only now that usual time is “earlier” than normal, the reverse of the springtime sleeping late phenomenon.

When I got to morning services at New Thought Spiritual Center on Sunday, the Center hadn’t changed the clocks yet. There was some talk about how God is never late! Well, neither is nature. The bees (remember them from our earlier post?) know when the time has come for certain tasks in their community. They don’t have external clocks telling them when to search for pollen. They don’t dance the dance of turning their watches backwards and forwards like we do. Their real time is indeed real, since it relies on nature, not an external concept of “unreal” time.

Linda’s famous for keeping her clocks and wristwatch 10 minutes ahead of the “real time.” She says she likes having extra time on her hands. Our new technologies sometimes have a hard time keeping pace with our culture, like those smart phones that didn’t make the switch for standard time. Sometimes our marketing methods lag behind, too.

The high tech, quickly changing world of mobile marketing can leave us late to the party, unless we make a conscious effort (like Al Roker getting up extra early) to stay abreast of changes. We at Hamptons Creative Group keep ourselves timely with our marketing messages – part of the reason for diving into the mobile marketing pool – and we want you to be up to the minute, too.
