Creative Thought Matters - the Monthly Newsletter from Hamptons Creative Group

October ’11 Newsletter – Creative Thought Matters

Message from the Alchemist

If you needed any more proof that social media is here to stay, here it is. A few weeks ago, Linda and 111 of her closest friends from 45 years ago gathered at a house in Southampton for a reunion.

So what, you say? The reunion was coordinated over Facebook! The group also discovered through social media that, unbeknownst to them, two of them had been living just 5 doors apart – for 24 years!

Linda loves to say that there are only 4 people in the world, and they all know each other. That’s definitely something this reunion brought home, courtesy of Facebook. Almost everyone at the gathering brought their smart phones, iPads or other devices, and started connecting even more with each other.

Not only was it amazing to see people from way back when, but it also raised everyone’s awareness of their surroundings.

The moral of the story? It’s not too complicated to find anyone these days, including Hamptons Creative Group. In fact, we love making it easy to get to us, and get to know us. Just follow the links…

The first chilly breezes have started as fall begins this year. We see people from our window over Main Street starting to bundle up. We’re starting to bundle up, too, but not because it’s getting cool outside. In fact, we’re bundling because things are heating up!

Hamptons Creative Group will soon announce successive service bundles — groupings of individual marketing efforts that work effectively together. We’ve identified what works best, and coupled with requests from clients, these bundles will be available to everyone later this year. Hopefully that should help you shake off the cold!

Hamptons Creative Group - Word of Mouth Blog

Word of Mouth – September 8, 2011

Post Labor Day Planning

Labor Day weekend signals the end of the summer season here in the Hamptons. In fact, we call the day after Labor Day Tumbleweed Tuesday because the streets and beaches seem empty enough to allow the wind to whistle through without obstacle.

But our villages, hamlets and towns do a great job of extending the season well into November.

For example, SeptemberFest on 9/24 is an all day and into the evening celebration of everything that we love about Southampton – arts, food, movies, books, music and theater.

Organized by leading civic, cultural and business groups, Southampton SeptemberFest offers residents and visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy Southampton’s rich cultural heritage and its close connection to agriculture and the sea during one of the most beautiful times of year.

Then, October 13-17 sees the Hamptons International Film Festival, now in its 19th year. This Festival attracts roughly 18,000 visitors to screen 100 films from some 20 countries. Celebrities, artists, filmmakers and cinephiles fill the streets, restaurants and shops at nearly height-of-the-season levels.

Visitors have discovered what we locals already knew: there are still plenty of things to do in our year round community where businesses can thrive at all times of year.

What are you doing to extend your season? Have you made plans to attract customers during what might be traditional down times in your sales cycle? Hamptons Creative Group’s Marketing Makeover Ultimate can help you smooth the peaks and valleys in your business by showing you how to get the right messages out via the right mediums.

It’s never too early to make plans. Sign up now.

Message from the Alchemist

Celebrity sightings in the Hamptons this summer have come fast and furious, almost like the hurricane we’re all cleaning up after!

At the annual Authors Night to benefit the venerable East Hampton Library, some 160 writers crowded in with avid readers, including Hamptons Creative Group’s success story Ren Dodson and Hampton Dog creator Lisa Hartman.

We saw Robert Kline, Nelson DeMille, Martin Amis and benefit chair Alec Baldwin. We talked to two hot prospects, too, each hard-working authors with new books on the market.

Christie BrinkleyThen we got our workout in with Christie Brinkley at the Wellness Center at Southampton Hospital. This event, hosted by Danskin, raised money for Ellen’s Run. Ellen’s Run supports women and families who suffer from breast cancer.

Christie looked great in her Danskin wear and we got quite a workout!

Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group

Follow up fast. The best time to follow up with someone you meet at a networking function, charity event or even standing in line for a latte, is directly after meeting them, while you’re still fresh in his or her mind. Never forget that networking is about building and maintaining relationships. You can go out and meet dozens of people, but what’s the point if you never keep in touch with them? Take the initiative and make the first move.

Struggling with using social media like LinkedIn to follow up? Let Hamptons Creative Group help you figure out how to use online networking tools to expand your brand influence.

Success Stories

This month’s success story is small business. Getting through both an earthquake and a hurricane recently, it’s a testament to those who plan ahead for the expected and unexpected. While no one foresaw the earthquake (though we all felt it) everyone seemed to have a plan for the hurricane. And while the effects were far reaching and quite serious in many cases, there’s no doubt that because of such extensive planning the worst was avoided.

As we spoke with our clients following the storm, it was clear that there were a many great things still on their minds. After some careful questions and some encouragement, we were able to help them regain focus and start planning once again. Marketing is a continuous process, so it’s ok to look for help from an outside group. You never know what great things you’ll uncover about yourself, your goals, and your success.

Hamptons Creative Group - Word of Mouth Blog

Word of Mouth – June 23, 2011

Conversations with the Experts

Last night we enjoyed a spectacular evening at Bedell Cellars to support the Parrish Art Museum. As you can imagine, there were plenty of conversations with influential business leaders.

Whether we were talking with old friends or networking with new acquaintances, the conversations — real word of mouth in action — helped build better relationships and share new ideas.

With that spirit in mind, CEO Linda A.B. Miller took a quick break from shaking hands to record this special invitation for you to join us on our upcoming webinar series, Conversations with the Experts. (Click the video image below to watch.)

(Yes, that was a live steel drum band playing in the background!)

You’ll find all the information on how to sign up starting July 1st.

What’s a webinar? It’s like going to a workshop or seminar, only you hear, see and interact with the facilitators and other attendees on your computer or other internet and camera-enabled device.

The webinar series will be held on the last three Thursdays in July with a different topic and expert guest each time. We’re bringing outside marketing, SEO and social media leaders from different parts of the U.S. and overseas to discuss key ways to boost business.

This incredible webinar series has already generated a sizable buzz because businesses are looking for ways to grow without shattering the budget.

Our own Matthew Iscoe, Mission Controller and Donna Amos, Inspirer of Possibilities (our resident business coach), will moderate the series, which will cover:

 • How to turn typical conversations into new high-paying clients
 • How to transform spoken conversations into sparkling written pieces
 • How to chisel on-line conversations into revenue

Participation in the webinar series includes access to the recorded sessions, too.

Want to secure your place on the webinar series? Learn how to preregister by calling us at 631-283-2776 before June 28th! As a bonus for those who register early, we’ll give you one-time access to our client-only webinar next week.

Word of Mouth – April 21, 2011

Collaborating to Reach Your Goals

It’s hard sometimes to step back from your business and take the 10,000 foot view. We all get caught up in the day-to-day and we often lose track of the reason we’re in business at all – those goals we wanted to achieve by opening up shop (metaphorically and literally) in the first place.

It’s easy to get sidetracked. On Tuesday, filming for new episodes of the TV show “Royal Pains”Mark Feuerstein of the TV show "Royal Pains" says "hi" to Hamptons Creative Group during filming in Southampton. took place literally outside our window. Between the 60 or so person on-site crew, actors, extras, producers, technicians, caterers, security, on-lookers, and directors screaming “action” and “cut” over and over, it’s any wonder how we stayed focused with all that buzz just outside. And while not all daily distractions make it to basic cable television, when you add them up it can be a frightening prognosis.

Working With Your Co-Star

And we’re now into the second quarter of 2011. This past Monday, our taxes were due, allowing us to take stock of the previous year, which makes this is the perfect time to reflect on what’s happened in the first three months of this year. And sometimes it takes a collaborative partner to figure out just what’s going on — someone who keeps the focus on the big picture, not just the minutia; Someone who can help you figure out if you’re on the right path when you executed your plan for the year.

To keep themselves on track, or even get on track in the first place, several individuals and businesses have completed our Goal Focus Sheet. We’re now working with them to uncover their own success story and set them on the true path for their branding and marketing to accomplish their goals.

This powerful tool doesn’t require any heavy lifting on your part, either. Hamptons Creative Group does the hard work! We review your business to see if your branding aligns with your purpose, if you are you reaching your ideal target audience and if you are using all the tools available to you to succeed.

Because that’s who we are – the creative collaborator you need to reveal your own success story. Don’t let 2011 the year you left your success story unwritten.

Who do you turn to when you need help sparking your creativity? Hamptons Creative Group loves to collaborate to jump-start our client’s brand inspiration. We’re doing that by offering our exclusive Goal Focus Sheet. With this powerful tool, you can finally turn your marketing efforts into a success story. If your success story is still waiting to be written, don’t let any more time go by.

Word of Mouth – February 10, 2011

Road Trip Month, Week 3

We’ve arrived at Road Trip Month Week 3 and we’re enjoying road tripping through branding, social media and marketing.

Many Roads, One Focus

Thinking lately about our far reaching pit crew, their work isn’t performed solely in our office on Main Street in Southampton. Our team members work their magic in far-flung places! Donna inspires possibilities from Cincinnati. Jim, the Venture Virtuoso, conveys his insights this winter from Florida. Kelly, the Sorceress of Syntax, transmits her words over electronic media from Albuquerque.

In fact, when the Hamptons-based individuals come together physically, they represent the reaches of Long Island all the way out to Montauk! Our teamwork keeps us all driving toward the same goals, though we’re on different byways to get there.

Whatever road the mind of your customer drives down, that’s how we deliver the message, too – using the modes of the web and email, video and social media, as well as traditional distribution methods like newspaper, magazines, TV and radio advertising.

Our Clients at the Wheel

One of our clients is overhauling her message engine to come nose to nose with the way she delivers her service. Southampton Limousine, Ltd. (the oldest and largest limousine service in the Hamptons, with locations in Palm Beach and Los Angeles) has long transported clients by car, by plane and by helicopter. Their name doesn’t convey that message, though. So, in addition to providing convenience and a stellar experience, they’re emphasizing the many modes of their service with a name change to Southampton Transportation.

A Full Fleet of Vehicles
Hamptons Creative Group

Whatever special delivery method we’re using — email, fax, Skype, telephone, or web-based collaborative workflow software — Hamptons Creative Group’s compass always points to the true north of our clients’ destination: branding success and high-octane awareness.

Make way, we’re in the fast lane.

~Beach Booty: Tips from Hamptons Creative Group~

Don’t wait until you need a network to build one. Networking is not something to do only when you need a new client or customer. It’s not something you can cram, buy or borrow the night before you need it, either. Networking must be a regular part of your life and activities. Just like friendships, the most authentic and meaningful professional relationships evolve naturally over time.

Need help finding places to network? Let Hamptons Creative Group suggest ways for you to connect – in person or online – to build your network.

~Success Stories~

This month, we celebrate Linda’s success in connecting Hampton Creative Group’s clients to their audiences! As part of this success, we’re proud to be creating the Facebook fan page for Peconic Public Broadcasting. This local NPR station needed help venturing online to connect with their community of listeners and followers. Linda has known Eclectic Café radio host Bonnie Grice and station manager Wally Smith for years. This community minded group does so much for the area, and Linda has supported the station for years. She even answered phones during last summer’s pledge drive.

So when Bonnie invited Linda to talk about her new book on the show last week, Linda was delighted to invite another local author, Ren Dodson, to join her. Bonnie highlighted Linda’s book and Hamptons Creative Group’s work to spread the word about Rens’ writing, too. Making connections between our vast network of collaborative friends and community – it’s what Hamptons Creative Group is all about.

You’ll recall from our last newsletter that Hamptons Creative Group was offering Marketing Makeovers to help businesses make a splash in 2011. We started delivering those Marketing Makeovers in January to eager and excited clients looking to benefit from a customized blueprint or success.

While the Marketing Makeovers do arrive in beautiful blue binders, clients also receive a one-on-one session with Hamptons Creative Group to discuss their binder’s contents, including the calendars, research, and measurement tools. Here’s what one Marketing Makeover client had to say:

“I got a Marketing Makeover from Hamptons Creative Group and I’m thrilled to be working with them to punch up my brand. The makeover gave me concrete ideas and ways to get my name out to my ideal clients, to position myself as an expert in intellectual property, trademark and copyright law, and to enter the world of online webinars. I’m excited about the new possibilities.”
Kathryn Dalli, Attorney at Law, Partner at Twomey, Latham, Shea, Kelley, Dubin & Quartararo, LLP

recipients have in common?

Word of Mouth Jan 6, 2011 – Digital Trends for 2011

WORD OF MOUTH FROM HAMPTONS CREATIVE

Digital Marketing Trends & Predictions for 2011
We at Hamptons Creative Group don’t claim to be the complete experts on electronic marketing, but we do know quite a lot, including some important things that will happen in the digital landscape in 2011. And we know that these trends will have a big impact on our business and yours in the coming year. Here’s a recap of a great article we found examining these trends, and some ideas to capitalize on them.

1- Costs-Per-Click Rising

As dollars continue to flood into online marketing, cost per click is becoming more expensive. The way to lower costs? Testing and optimizing both by marketers and keyword software. Conversion from click to purchase is the goal.

2- Mobile & Social Platforms Dominate

Ever-increasing mobile and social platform users (that’s you, Mr. Smartphone and you Miss Facebook), translates to marketing on many more sites, in more formats and more contexts. As this shift occurs, marketers need to build a diverse customer base NOW. Look past your own website toward investments in Facebook pages, Twitter feeds and even sites like Groupon or Google Places.

3. Google Gets Social, Facebook Gets Serious

Google’s search rankings will begin to respond to feedback, not just hits, allowing users to rate search results or even websites, and have user “likes” factored into ranking algorithms. And at the same time, Facebook wiGoogle Analyticsll get more serious by extend its ads beyond Facebook to participating non-Facebook sites. What does this mean? A di rect targeting of messages based on demographic and placement characteristics, offering the first true challenge to Google.

4. Come Back, Little Sheba

What is the value of getting back someone you already acquired? In 2011, look for this question to be answered. “Remarketing” tools will become better at telling marketers the true cost-of-acquisition. Watch for better Google Analytics metrics and for other remarketing vendors to get into the act.

So How Do You Leverage These Trends? 1.Plan for an increasingly competitive marketplace. Consumers are always looking for a better deal, so focus on the basics: message testing, landing page optimization and high rankings in search engines.

2.Use Bing, too. Bing’s an up and comer. Use it like you would Google.

3. Go mobile. Start testing mobile as a way to reach people. Scan Me with Your Smart Phone -QR 2D Code

4.Put your eggs in many baskets. Using Facebook ads? Try other social networking sites like Groupon,Foursquare and Google Places, too.

Don’t know where to start in marketing your message or how to take advantage of 2011’s trends? Our Marketing Makeover provides you with a customized blueprint to stay on top of it all. Already have a plan, but want help from the pros to execute it? Hamptons Creative Group gets your message to the places and people you want it to – your ideal customers, wherever they are, planetwide.
